Reporting from the massive conference center in Orlando. It's hot as hell outside, over-air conditioned inside, and if this isn't the least interesting city in the US, I don't want to see what is. I've been living on three simultaneous tracks the last couple of days here: On track one is the conference, which is going great. I just left a big panel on technology trends which included such information luminaries as Clifford Lynch, Roy Tennant and Walt Crawford (who drops by here now & then - Hi Walt!).
On track two is my family: My mother from Miami & my aunt from Tampa have converged upon this place to see me. So in between meetings and programs, I'm taking meals with family. It's great, but also distracting to be going back and forth between these two worlds.
And over on track three is the bug I picked up in Oregon, still congesting my head and sending me into occasional coughing fits one week later. This is also most distracting, but with sudafed and coffee, all things are possible.
Being under the weather now reminds me that this since I moved to California, this is the first time I've had so much as a cold. The Bay Area's been good to me in so many ways.
I fly back tomorrow. Hurray.
Posted by Jason at June 27, 2004 03:51 PMA brief message from track two. It was an unexpected pleasure to get to see you...in spite of the obvious influence that track three had on your state of well being. I agree that the part of Orlando you were visiting is not very interesting if one is not into shopping or theme parks. There is, however, a cultural side to Orlando as well as some beautiful places. Hope that your congestion has cleared enough that you will not be uncomfortable during your flight home. Sorry I woke you up this morning. Give Jiwon a kiss for me.
Love, Mom
Hi yourself. Hope you enjoyed TTT. I hadn't thought about that part of Orlando being uninteresting, although that's true. I just found it way too spread out and pedestrian-hostile for ALA (as noted in my LISNews journal). And sorry you're leaving my alma mater; good luck with your next step.
