Rosh

May you be inscribed in the Book of Life!On Josie's strong recommendation, I went with her to Rosh Hashanah services last night at Chochmat HaLev. And this morning, I went back for more. I really liked it, much more than I've ever liked services anywhere. It was joyous and light-hearted and inclusive and musical in ways I wouldn't have believed unless I'd just seen it.

Last night, while people were still finding their seats, the cantor & other singers started up a little yai dai dai melody, and the assemled hundreds soon joined in, and then people are holding hands and laughing and dancing up & down the aisles. I'd just walked in, the room was already full of energy, and I thought: The service hasn't even started yet, and they're already dancing in the aisles?!?! This is some kind of place.... (And that was before they did the Beatles' Blackbird, in both Hebrew and English.)

Later, the rabbi wished us "all the sweetness you can bear" in the coming year. Amen to that.

L'shana tova! Happy 5765!
