Turn of events

Yesterday morning the SIM card in my cellphone broke, disabling my phone and leaving me again to wonder how I ever got along without it. Then after work I returned to my car, on a sidestreet near yoga, to find not one but two parking tickets on it. I was tired, I was incommunicado, I had tickets under my wiper, and my usual sensation of pronoia was quite absent.

But then came today. While sipping my (late) morning coffee, I got a call from a headhunter. I informed her that, indeed, my current gig at UC Berkeley was up at the end of this semester, and no, I didn't have anything particular in the works. Within fifteen minutes, I was phone interviewing. By the time I hung up, I'd been offered what sounds like a very cool new job . . . and I accepted! And I was still in my jammies.

They want me right away, and I agreed to start Monday. I'm still working at UCB Wed, Thurs and Sat, so they can only have me the remaining days. But come late May, once Berkeley's semester ends, I'll go up to full time at the new place.

It's full-time temporary, but could go permanent if we're a good match. We'll see!
