Yesterday was my last day as a librarian at UC Berkeley. Due to the vagaries of the UC budget, I was on temporary money, so it was no surprise that they couldn't keep me. I really enjoyed working there, and my boss and colleagues were clearly unhappy to see me go. In addition, just in case I was inclined toward feeling unwanted or inadequate (which I'm not), I was also serendipitously offered a new job before the old one even ended. So, it would seem the best possible involuntary separation, but it is an involuntary separation nonetheless.
For my last day at work, the boss took me to lunch at the Faculty Club, then I worked my last shift at the Doe reference desk, said some goodbyes, turned in my keys and ID, and went to yoga with Jiwon. I was feeling pretty wiped out from the day's events, but I still thought would be good for me to go and squeeze it all out. Well, the yoga class seriously kicked my ass: I got light-headed and nauseous, as if I was draining off ill humours. I hadn't suffered like that in a yoga class in a long time. But this morning? I feel great.
