Hi there. For the past three weeks, I've been averaging close to a party a day, and between all my work and all that fun, I haven't gotten around to stopping by. But I'm home tonight, opening mail, deleting email, and doing a little mental review. The year looks to be ramping up to a most satisfying cresendo, and I'll tell you about all that after the fact. So far this "holiday season" I've experienced some terrific variety, indicative of my wide-but-skewed spectrum of friends: Tame academic and corporate affairs growing tipsy and louder as midnight approaches contrast starkly with Burner bacchanals growing wilder as we edge toward dawn. Festive consumables have been eaten, drank, inhaled & insufflated in festive quantities before my very eyes. There've been sounds, of hot tub jets and hookah bubbles and subwoofers and floggings and corks. I went to Alan's house, and to Ernie's, and Susie's, and Aaron's. I went to Thea's for her birthday, and to Carnen's for hers, and to Martina's, to join in celebrating her Two Dozen Years of Excellence. I walked into a party for "holiday orphans" at a friends' place yesterday at 7pm and found some twenty-five people happily splayed about, all of them horizontal. (Rolling on Christmas, are you kidding me?)
And speaking of 12/25, I bought a $2.99 Santa hat at Walgreen's, and joined a Santa bar crawl through Oakland last week. I made peace with Christmas, for that night only, by telling myself that if St. Patrick's Day & Cinco de Mayo can be enjoyed by non-Irish & non-Mexicans, then why can't this Nice Jewish Boy dress up as Santa & make merry? Why not indeed.
