Food & Agriculture

Food. We certainly can't live very long without it, but ours is an adaptable species, capable of living on a large variety of foods. Today, many people in the industrialized world are far removed from the source of their food both literally and spiritually. Participating directly in food production is a core activity of most homesteaders, and one that can be fulfilling on many levels. This section deals mainly with fruit and vegetable production in one way or another, with pages on gardening, permaculture, food preservation, and composting. The three resources below offer access to information on other sources of good foods that may be of interest.

Community Supported Agriculture
Join a local Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm, and reap the rewards. In most cases, members pay a set fee to the farmer in the spring, and then receive weekly shares of the farm's produce throughout the growing season. The farmer then has a guaranteed income, and the members receive fresh, local, (usually) organic produce. Not only do members get to eat with the seasons, many CSAs also require that members spend a nominal amount of time helping out at the farm.
Huntseek: The Largest Hunting and Fishing Internet Resource
A comprehensive directory of hunting, trapping and fishing information, plus a host of discussion forums.
Walton Feed
Walton Feed is a source for "edible dry goods" in bulk, including everything from sacks of beans and grains to dehydrated fruits and vegetables.
